Louisville Orchestra Art Contest
The Musical Inspirations Art Contest gives Kentucky students in grades 8-12 the opportunity to create an original two-dimensional art piece that is inspired by the music of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” The five winning art pieces will be projected onto large screens at The Kentucky Center during an orchestra performance of the music that inspired the art.

With cash prizes of up to $5,000, The ArtEffect Project recognizes student art projects that creatively interpret an unsung hero story through a visual arts project, short narrative film, play or creative story.

The ArtEffect Project is open to U.S. and international students in grades 6-12. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 15. More information and a free 10-step art lesson plan can be found on the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes website.

With cash prizes up to $7,500, the Discovery Award recognizes student projects that celebrate unsung heroes from history uncovered through student research and creatively presented in a student-produced documentary film, play or website. The Discovery Award is open to U.S. and international students in grades 4-12 and has a deadline of July 1, 2018. More information can be found on the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes website.

EcoArt Contest

The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection’s (DEP) 2017-18 EcoART Contest is open to Kentucky high school students. The contest provides an opportunity for students to gain statewide recognition for their artwork as it relates to Kentucky’s environment. Used as a tool for environmental education, art supports DEP’s mission to protect and conserve Kentucky’s environment.

Multiple awards will be presented to eligible students who create art using the contest’s environmental themes of air, water, land and natural habitats. Students may submit artwork using the media types of drawing/painting/print, mixed media, sculpture/pottery, digital artwork and photography, with one winner for each submitted media type within each theme.

Vans Custom Culture Contest

Vans Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design and to bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets. Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively and should be given the tools to do so.

Custom Culture is a national high school customization competition using blank Vans shoes to be customized around specific themes. Once your school’s designs are completed, they go through a voting process to narrow down our top 50 entries. Then, it’s up to your school and classmates to garner votes from the public to choose our top 5. One school will be chosen as the Grand Prize Winner, receiving $75,000 for their art program
